The bag and memories live on.  In 1984, the Hermès CEO was seated next to Jane Birkin on a Paris flight to London.  She dropped her bag, which dropped an idea into Jean-Louis’ head:  A classy tote to keep a bunch of stuff in.  While the luxury Birkin bag was born that day, the inspiration left us this week as Jane Birkin, a French music and film icon, passed away at 76.

Her namesake?  Sales are up 23% so far this year.
