Nichelle Nichols, better known as Uhura in Star Trek was going to quit after the first season of that famous TV show in 1966.  She gave Gene Rodenberry her resignation…and was heading to Broadway. But she stayed…why?

A fan told her she was the only black actor on TV playing a worthwhile character and a role model to him and his children.  Who was that fan?  Dr. Martin Luther King.
