Today in 1935, Amelia Earhart was the first to fly solo from Hawaii to California.
(why leave Hawaii, I’ll never know?)
To me, proving you can do great things and be fashionable while doing them.
Or as Amelia suggested this important lesson:
“Never interrupt someone doing something you said couldn’t be done.”

Funny Amelia Earhart story. She was a visiting professor at Purdue University, which has always had a reputation as an excellent school for aeronautics and astronautics. (It’s also where I got my PhD.) At the time, the campus was still heavily gender-segregated, and women students weren’t allowed to wear pants. But Earhart showed up in pants on her first day, and since she was one of the most famous women in the world, no one felt empowered to tell her to change. That inspired female students to buck the policy, and feeling that they couldn’t selectively enforce it when their most prominent instructor defied it, the college dropped the rule.

Thanks for sharing Freddie. It’s always great to hear and learn more of a “backstory”
